Aspire Centre

Welcome to the Aspire Centre at Coleraine College.

Aspire Class is situated in a large, purpose built ASD teaching room. It is divided into a series of zones, which facilitate a range of functions.

All students have ASD as a primary need on their statements.
The student body is made up of students of all different year groups in KS3 and KS4.

The learning in the Aspire centre is individualised for each student with bespoke timetables and hours of learning.

Students have access to a range of externally accredited courses which includes GCSE English, GCSE Maths, Princes’ trust Personal Development and Essential Skills.

The Aspire Centre is also offers ASD interventions to the wider school community and is used by mainstream students during break and lunch times as an area of calm.

Work
Zone

In this zone there are a mix of big tables and work stations. We spend most of our time in this area as it is where our registration times and classwork takes place. In our class time we have access to a Clear touch interactive board, a bank of laptops and an iPad to aid and enhance learning.

The Regulation Zone

This zone can be used in the morning, at break and lunch times or when students need some time out. It has comfy seats, a special interest library and a range of sensory equipment to help us if we are feel calm, relaxed and ready to learn.

The Social Skills Zone

This zone is a social space, where we have access to our own mini kitchen with kettle toaster, fridge and microwave. It is used at break and lunch times as well as a great space for taking part in fun communication tasks such as board games and Lego building. As part of the social skills zone we are developing a sensory circuits area to focus on aspects of individualised sensory integration.
